What says holidays more than chocolate and peppermint? I took this recipe up a notch too. It is so delicious, moist and the flavors really compliment each other. Taste the holidays with every single bite! Chocolate cake from the box but better. In this recipe, I added a bunch to make this cake more moist and delicious. Reviews from the critics (my parents) say it is perfect and not just cause they love me. It is the perfect balance of all the different flavors!

The ingredients you need to make the cake itself: chocolate box cake mix, eggs, milk, vegetable oil, sour cream, vanilla, chocolate chips and salt. The Peppermint Buttercream Frosting recipe is here. The chocolate ganache recipe also went up today!

I basically threw all the ingredients in and mixed em up till it was combined.

This is what it should look like once its all mixed up, the little bumps are the tiny chocolate chips!

Next, line pans with parchment paper and butter and pours your mix in. I used two pans (9x2inch) and split the mix. Bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes. Let cool and get ready to decorate. If you have not seen my post about How to Decorate a Cake, I break down every step of the way.

I layered the Peppermint Frosting and then chocolate ganache. I have never done this before so trial and error! I would say maybe a thick layer of frosting with barriers around the edges to keep the ganache from spilling over. I also tried placing the cake in the freezer for five minutes to get the ganache to harden a little but just plan ahead unlike me.

I added the second layer of cake on top. You want to put the bottom of the cake facing up so you get the flattest edge possible.

Next is up to you, decorate however you want. I put peppermint frosting on top and all around the cake. Then I dripped ganache along the edges and crushed more peppermint for the top.

You can tell how moist and delicious it is. The sour cream and milk make the difference. The little chocolate chips also add that extra little bite. The cake looks like it might be super sweet but it is the perfect balance of sweet, peppermint, chocolate and vanilla, I promise. I am the type of person who dislikes frosting so when I actually like it, you know it is right. By far the most amazing cake, the more practice you get, the more you learn and the more delicious the food! Thanks for catching the wave this week.
