Spicy Beer Battered Fish Tacos

I was always the kids that were super picky and afraid to try new things. Fish was one of those things I dreaded. Growing up I now can appreciate it. Still not crazy about sushi (I know, sorry). These tacos are not super spicy but have just the right amount of kick. My mango salsa recipe has the perfect balance of the spice. Check it out here if you haven’t seen it yet. Another great topping is my recipe for a Cilantro Lime Crema, check it out here.

All the dry ingredients mixed together.

The batter once the egg and batter has been mixed in.

We used cod as our choice of fish.

Slice the fish into smaller sections. Make sure they are small enough to fit into the tortilla you plan on using. Also, take into consideration the batter makes the fish a little bigger.

Salt your fish on both sides to add some flavor.

Don’t mind the temporary countertop we are using. Get ready to dip!

Make sure your oil has reached 350 degrees F. This was our test piece to make sure we had the right temperature.  If you don’t have a deep fryer you can use a regular pot or pan as well.

In this fryer, it took about 2-3 minutes for the fish to rise and become a nice golden brown.

Get your tortillas warmed up. You can go the lazy route in the microwave or the middle ground on the stove.

I let them get about this brown. Just crispy enough for some texture but enough pliability to fold it like a taco.

The ingredients we used to get the tacos put together. Fried fish, tortillas, guacamole and salsa. Solid staples for any taco.

The finished taco. SOOOOOOO good. It was honestly so much easier than I thought it would be. Once you do it once and get the hang of what you’re supposed to do it’s so simple.

This recipe was a definite win. This recipe didn’t really take that long either. In the end, we used so much oil it felt like a waste to toss. We saved the oil in a separate sealed jar for the next round of fish tacos! Also, this week I have switched email subscription services. With technology changes, of course, there are some transitioning problems😭 If any of you do not receive my emails please resubscribe in the form below. So sorry for the inconvenience but I promise it’s worth it😁

Instructions
  1. Get your oil heating up. We used a deep fryer pot and let it heat to 350 degrees F. You can also use a frying pan or big pot to achieve the same results.
  2. Mix flour, cornstarch, baking powder and red cayenne pepper.
  3. Add the eggs and light beer.
  4. Slice the fish into small slices, big enough to fit into your tortillas.
  5. Salt the fish on both sides and dip in the batter.
  6. Gently put fish in the hot oil. Only do about 3 at a time, depending on the size of your pan. Overcrowding will make the fish take longer to cook.
  7. Once the batter begins to really cook, the piece shoudl rise to the top. Wait until the batter is golden brown, about 2-3 minutes. Set the fish on a paper towel and plate to drain excess oil.
  8. Add your toppings and warm up your tortillas and enjoy!
