About two months ago my boss asked me if I wanted to fly to Canada for a wedding. I immediately checked my calendar and when I saw I was free I said "YES!". I would be heading down with my fellow content associate, Esther. This would be our first trip together and we were so excited to rep our boss and explore Canada together! 🏹
We went to the small town of Windsor, ON, Canada to create content for this wedding but we also had quite a bit of downtime to explore.
Traveling to Windsor
Before anything I had to get myself a pair of Rothy's. Rothy's are the classic vendor shoe because they don't cause blisters, they're washable, and they are cute! Unfortunately for me I had waited til the week of my trip to get myself on board with Rothy's. Mostly because I had just come back from Coachella so I had to quickly make a decision. They notoriously have unique sizing so I had to drive to Pasadena twice, rip.
I ended up need to go up a full size, I normally wear a size 9 but I went for a 10 so that the toes had more room. My nerve damage on my big toe from Coachella a few years back definitely still affects my toes and I had to account for that when I know I will be on my feet for 10+ hours. Anyways, enough about my toes.
Exploring Windsor
So we actually flew into Detroit and drove across the border which was only about 40 minutes from the car rental place to our hotel. Our hotel room had the most stunning view of Detroit (lol) but it was literally the best view walking into our room everyday.
From there we had a couple hours to settle in and grab some dinner and drinks. We got quick drinks before dinner at the Sundried Tomato just because it was nearby. After that we went into Cucina 360 and it was sooooo delicious. Fresh focaccia and I ate really good gnocchi bolognese.
In the morning it only felt right to try Tim Hortons. Now, its definitely nothing to write home about, it felt like something I had to do when visiting Canada. I got a basic brown sugar latte and some timbits.
Next, we hit a grocery store to grab umbrellas, water, and some snacks special to Canada. Funny enough the first thing I found was Dentyne gum, my moms all time favorite gum that they stopped selling near us. Naturally, I called her and she told me to buy as much as I could fit in my carryon. We also tried ketchup flavored chips, all dressed chips, and a few other Canadian classics.
For lunch we ate at Sir Cedric's. A small mom and pop fish and chips restaurant. They told us they catch the halibut themselves and it was really fresh! I actually really enjoyed it, it was light for being fried and simple. Also, the fries were actually so good and not some frozen fries. Overall, not a bad spot to have a quick lunch.
At night we had the welcome party for the wedding so we decided to Uber Eats dinner and just get ready in the hotel. We decided to get Eddy's Mediterranean. I had a caesar salad with chicken shawarma and it was really nice to have a salad instead of more heavy food.
The welcome party was at Willistead Manor, a beautiful estate inside and out. Every room had been set up so beautifully for an old hollywood vibe.
By the time we were home, we ate some leftovers in bed and went straight into uploading the nights content.
Wedding morning began with a quick breakfast in the hotel and then capturing the couples getting ready content. Luckily post ceremony, we got a lunch break at Paglione Winery. We had 45 minutes to pull off this lunch break and it was actually one of the best meals of the whole trip. I had the Candiana pizza with a glass of Sauv Blanc and an affogato to finish it off.
I might be dreaming about it for a long time. Windsor will get me to come back just for this meal.
Next up was shooting the rest of the wedding at Sprucewood Shores. Another stunning property and reception. This was the first wedding where we actually got a seat in the main reception with full dinner service just like every guest. I will say we did run back and forth from our seats to make sure we didn't miss any content, but it was so nice!
We passed the Ambassador Bridge on our way back to the hotel and took a quick video for my vlog. On this trip, there was never enough content. It was so fun to be on a trip with a fellow content girlie.
Saturday was a day full of rest, uploading, and exploring. On our way to brunch at Cafe March 21, we had just missed the local farmers market but it looked so cute. I ordered a Strawberry Matcha Latte as well as the Croffle Breakfast Sandwich, both were really good. The cafe was also really cute, I highly recommend visiting!
For dinner we at at nooch, a vegan restaurant that offered vegan poutine, another big Canadian must have. I ordered their take on the crunchwrap supreme from taco bell and it was really good, very spicy! Esther had the Chicken Delish which is another take on a popular Canadian dish.
Everything was really good and not even "for being vegan". While yes, I am sure the regular thing tastes different these were all really good. Next time I visit, I definitely would want to try regular poutine but this vegan one definitely got the job done!
As you could see earlier in my post, the view from our room was the Detroit Skyline. All along the riverwalk were different installations and things like Dieppe Gardens, Sculpture Gardens, War Memorials and more.
The Ambassador Bridge was all the way to the left of the riverwalk and very pretty during sunset. We got lucky the weather wasn't too bad and we caught a little bit of sunset.
When we got to our room the whole sky was different shades of pink and orange, totally breathtaking. As much as we wanted to take pics out there, we had to get back to our room to pack because we had an early start to our travel day the next morning. The second photo is the view right when I woke up around 5 a.m.
All in all, I really need to visit Canada again. I was so impressed with pricing while I was there also so that was nice! While I probably saw most of what Windsor has to offer, I seriously would come back just to eat at Paglione if I was in the area.
I came home with some cute souvenirs and I will never forget the first time I visited Canada! What a once in a lifetime experience. Forever grateful!
