WYATT'S 10TH BIRTHDAY JOURNAL

Writer: SamSam

When I made my niece her 10th birthday journal it became a "thing" that my nephew immediately knew he wanted. If you read the post for her journal, you know that it was always in the plan to make him one too.

This tradition might have partially been born because my big brother gifted me a Shel Silverstein poem book on my tenth birthday and he wrote a birthday message inside it that meant the world to me.

My nephew is such a little cutie, as we grew nearer to his birthday, he made it clear he didn't forget about the journal. I asked what he wanted for Christmas and he mentioned the journal Sienna got. I told him he was of course getting that for his birthday!

Again, with the process of creating this journal, I found myself healing my own inner child. It felt good to create with no judgements. I knew he would love it no matter what, and the fact that I made it special for him.

I want to include my Pinterest board where I did save some ideas for this as well under the section "journal".

Ideas for what to write inside:

  • 10 fears you overcame

  • Affirmations

  • Angel numbers

  • Quotes that could resonate

  • 10 game I played when I was 10

  • 10 things you'll need to know for the next 10 years

  • What I hope the next decade looks like (very general things as to not put them into a box!! ie. Don't say "becoming a teacher, doctor etc.")

  • What you love right now

  • What you hate right now

  • One lesson you learned each year (to continue the journal and write one thing from 10-20)

  • A sealed letter for you to open on your 20th birthday

I tried to keep things really similar to my nieces journal, juuuuust in case they started to compare lol. I am glad I did because my niece immediately wanted to see the page I made dedicated to their sibling relationship.

This project was really fun and I hope it inspires others to make the little ones in their lives feel seen and understood. It was a really nice tradition to carry out for them. I really hope I get to peek at the journal 10 years from now and see how they used it, of course with their permission.

I would love to see any journals you guys create as well! Please tag me or DM me on any social media @catchthewavewithsam, linked below.
