CLASSIC CHOCOLATE CAKE

This chocolate cake recipe is both easy to make and incredibly tasty. While some chocolate cake recipes call for numerous ingredients and involve lots of dishes, this one stands out for its simplicity without compromising on flavor or texture.

I also share how to transform a round cake into a heart-shaped cake!

INGREDIENTS

1¾ cups All-Purpose Flour

2 cups Granulated Sugar

¾ cup Unsweetened Cocoa Powder

2 tsp. Baking Soda

1 tsp. Baking Powder

1 tsp. Salt

½ cup Vegetable Oil

2 Eggs, room temperature

1 cup Buttermilk

1 cup Hot Coffee

Chocolate Buttercream or Chocolate Ganache

INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and line two 8 inch round cake pans.

  2. In a large bowl, whisk together all the dry ingredients (flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder, and salt).

  3. In a medium bowl, combine vegetable oil, eggs, and buttermilk (NOT the coffee yet).

  4. Slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry and whisk as you go. Once just incorporated, add the hot coffee and mix until no flour is left. The batter will be very thin.

  5. Pour into your cake pans and bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes clean out the center.

This cake in particular I decided to make a quick little heart shaped cake. And no you don't need a heart cake pan.

Using your round cake pans you simply cut the v shape on the bottom and add to the top of your cake using frosting. After cutting the first layer, use it as a template for your other layers. Use frosting to attach the pieces and place in the fridge for at least 10 minutes before adding the next layer.

Once it has set in the fridge for a bit, add a layer of frosting and add the second layer of cake using the same method.

Frost the cake entirely and leave as is or decorate as desired! I decided to just do a simple chocolate heart cake with no decorations so the cake didn't end up too sweet with a ton of frosting for decor!

This cake was SO moist and delicious. The frosting was also the perfect compliment. My favorite way to eat this cake was with it really cold, straight out of the fridge.
