MEXICO CITY BIRTHDAY WEEKEND

For my birthday this year I decided an international trip was in order. My friend Monet is also a leo baby and our birthdays are just a week apart, so why not make it a joint celebration. I have been to Mexico City once before, but it was a very different energy. This trip was intended to be a fun girls trip with plenty of food, shopping, and bars.
Turning 29 was the best reminder that this is my last year in my 20's... eek. Where did all the time go?! I still feel freshly 21 but with all the knowledge of a 29 year old. Excited to enjoy my last year in my twenties before entering a new decade!
Out first day was mostly a travel day which included LAX to MEX. We landed around 4 pm which gave us time to settle into our hotel and get ready for some drinks and dinner. We stayed at The Mondrian which had an Oxxo across the street, perfect for quick little snacks (and a paloma!!).
Dacopa
Dacopa was a really cute bar with a really cool concept. When we first got there we were a little confused about the tables. We were one of the first people there and they said we couldn't have a table. We did see online a reservation doesn't guarantee a table but since all but two were empty we got lucky and they gave us one! (it was also a Thursday at 8 p.m.)
Basically every night we were there it rained in the evening, so seeing the rain on the roof was really cool. The DJ in the middle of the bar was playing house music. Very aesthetic and great to start the night.
We ordered a few different appetizers and cocktails, all really good. We had a few rounds of drinks and danced at our table for a bit. Also, I almost face planted coming out of the bathroom. I forgot there was a dropdown into the bathroom but luckily I caught myself on the door.
Eddy's Piano Bar
On the way to Dacopa Monet noticed a poppin bar down the street so we decided to walk over and see what we thought. This ended up being our favorite spot of the trip. We had so much fun dancing and it was a pretty intimate space (not packed at all!). Highly recommend.
Taco Naco
Honestly throwing this in just because we did in fact go here but I do not recommend it lol. It was right by our hotel but I would not go back. The food in Mexico City overall was a 10/10 and this spot just really did not deliver.
Parque Quetzalcoatl
We woke up bright and early for our tour at Parque Quetzalcoatl. This was a little ways out of town but nothing too crazy, maybe 45 minutes. We booked our tickets about a month earlier (make sure you book the English tour!). Ubers didn't really have any issue coming in or out, even though some people have said to book travel with them directly. Our tour guide assured us we could schedule order an uber and have no problem. Ours even waited ten minutes when we ran behind!
As for the design and architecture itself, unreal, as you can see! With photos being a main priority for us it was definitely a lot to squeeze in at each stop. Our group also consisted of more girly pops which was great but also added the photos everyone wanted. We definitely made it work but with other groups being in the same spaces it was a little hard to get photos in some spots. Nonetheless would be so excited to come back in a few years when they add on to the property. They have some big dreams and an intimate team working on it all!
Botanico
At lunch we finally met up with Paulina and Maria who arrived several hours later than us and spent Friday morning relaxing! This was a 10/10 experience, one of my favorite restaurants of the trip. The service, the ambiance, the food and drinks, all incredible.
Gonzalo, our waiter, was an absolute angel who guided us to photo spots and highly encouraged a shot of tequila in celebration of our birthdays. When we made the reservation they even went out of their ways to print custom menus with our names.
Taverna
We had a couple hours to relax before getting ready for our evening plans. This restaurant had a really cool ambiance with candles lit everywhere. The rain overhead added a very Night Before Christmas feel lol. There was lightning and thunder that literally had everyone spooked.
These carajillos took me out because we barely ate anything and I was probably dehydrated. The caffeine caught up to me by the time we got to Lucha Libre.
Lucha Libre at Arena Mexico
The rain persisted and it was packed all around the arena. We had to run a bit through some rain to get inside but once we got in we were ready to see what the hype was all about. It was my first time and it was fascinating. The finale or main event was sooooo interesting lol. Typically these tickets are like $20 but we paid like $80 because this was a huge event. Would I pay $80 AGAIN probably not but $20 yea definitely lol.
Just before it was wrapping up my anxiety was through the roof and we needed to get moving. I chugged a water and sprite and we headed to Hanky Panky. We sat there for a sec but the wait time was supposedly an hour... I was like honestly yall I do not feel good I am so sorry. Back to the hotel we went and I devoured a macrobar and more water. We called it a night and honestly for the best!
Rumor
The next day we planned a slow day dedicated to shopping and strolling. First stop was Rumor to get some caffeine flowing. I got the strawberry matcha and it was good! The cookies looked unreal but I wasn't in the mood for one sadly. The store was half coffee shop and half jewelry/clothing. There were some cool and unique pieces but on the pricey side (rightfully so!) since they were crafted by local artists and designers.
Casa Ananda
This was a curated vintage shop that had some nice pieces but definitely on the curated pricing. I didn't find anything that absolutely shook me but they did have a large selection with three floors of different sections.
Balmori
We decided to put our name in at Mi Compa Chava and the wait time was about an hour and a half. We decided while we waited we would go grab drinks. We did get a drink at a brewery type spot down the street first and then quickly got one at Balmori.
By quickly I mean, once the drinks came we had like 10 minutes to finish them. This was a really cute rooftop bar though!
Mi Compa Chava
1000% worth the wait. I didn't even get a photo of my food that is how hungry I was. My favorite was probably the aguachiles. Seriously though everything was 10/10 I loved. The margaritas were also really good.
With the wait time being as long as it was, we had like 45 minutes to get ready for our birthday dinner plans. Honestly it was impressive how quickly we pulled ourselves together.
Salón Palomilla
First stop was Salon Palomilla and we sat at the table with a platform vibe. No rain was a birthday gift because we got to sit under the opening!
We were a little surprised that even with our reservation of 5 they sat two more people at our table, which was quite the squeeze. Got kind of weird vibes from everyone after that but like still had a good time and one drink.
Drama Radio Bar
From there we walked over to Drama Radio Bar where the vibes were high. They offered us tequila shots when we walked in and we were all over it. We didn't spend a ton of time here but honestly really liked it!
Maximo
Finally, we made it to dinner. This was our "big" dinner and we looooved it. The food and drinks were all really good. I am a sucker for a hibiscus margarita, ever since making them for my birthday a few years back. Everyone was so sweet telling us happy birthday and they brought us a little dessert with a candle!
We did end the night back at Eddy's. Clealry had a good time so we went back lol. We also did try a different bar at first but lowkey hated the specific house music they were playing and my feet were killing me. So dancing to music that was eh was not the vibe.
Glad we ended it at Eddy's because we met two other birthday girls and one of their friends was sweet enough to give us birthday candles to blow out.
Flea Market Shopping - Tianguis de Antiguedades Lagunilla
Our last day was another chill day we wanted to take it easy. We got a super late start to the day but hit this specific market. I bought a few different things and am excited to style them!
Taquería Orinoco and El Moro
Lunch was next to the super popular Tacos del Valle, but we opted for this because there was basically no wait. It did not disappoint we really enjoyed everything here, like I said earlier the food did not miss in CDMX.
Okay don't hate me but like the food actually really did miss at El Moro. Apparently Harry Styles gave free churros to fans so the wait was like a line all the way around the block. We ordered on Uber Eats and it was ready in 10 minutes lol. Nonetheless the churros came out bald and just not great.... Someone get me a Disneyland churro STAT. I remember having it the first time I came years ago and liking it but eek maybe being busy really brought down the quality.
After that we roamed Parque Mexico and did a little shopping with the local vendors. I bought some earrings I am really excited about!
Mondrian
Special shoutout to Monet having points that made staying at the Mondrian so affordable! If you have the chance to stay here, we really loved it. We didn't make it to the bar or the Andaz pool but definitely a nice amenity too. Only thing that was weird was the partly see through bathroom and shower doors. Which this seems to be a common thing for hotels these days but just fair warning lol.
The breakfast was really nice and super fresh. My favorite was probably the sourdough, the bacon, and the chia seed pudding.
Also got quite a few Dua Lipa reccs were saved but we didn't see nearly enough, oh noooo I have to come back.

All in all, what a perfect way to celebrate turning 29 with all the girlies whom I love dearly. I cannot wait to see what this next year of life brings. Hopefully more travels and girls nights out. Can't get enough!!
Cheers to my last year of my 20's!!!
